As the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, Travis Kelce has not just racked up impressive stats and Super Bowl titles; he’s also carved a name for himself off the field. His relationship with Taylor Swift, starting in 2023, added a dash of celebrity glitz to his already stellar career.
Beyond the touchdowns and the headlines, though, lies the NFL icon’s commitment to a finely-tuned daily routine. His approach to fitness and recovery is a blend of discipline and innovation, tailored to keep him at the top of his game.
In high school, Kelce’s foray into football wasn’t just about playing; it also sparked his interest in the mechanics of training. In an interview with Tonal, he shared how this early experience shaped his future: “The small stuff that happens in the training rooms and the rehab rooms, I’ve learned to adapt that into my actual workouts.”
It was during this time that the future NFL star earned the nickname ‘Trainer Trav’, not just for being a part of the team but for his keen interest in understanding and improving physical performance.
Travis Kelce’s nutrition & diet
Kelce’s approach to nutrition is as strategic as his game plan on the field. Emphasizing the importance of targeted nutrition, he incorporates Hilo Nutrition gummies into his diet. These gummies offer a convenient and enjoyable way to get essential vitamins and supplements, perfectly aligning with his dynamic lifestyle. On game day, however, it’s all about loading up on carbs and fueling his body for the intense day ahead.
On game day, you want to carb up, so I have the energy I need for the game. If I can, I’ll have a breakfast type of meal, since a lot of our games are from 12-4 in the afternoon. Sometimes you might get lunch, but it’s mostly breakfast. For me, I have to grab some French toast, get my blood sugar going, get some carbs in. I’m big on French toast. Always eat that at the teams’ pregame meal.Chiefs TE Travis Kelce on Catching Patrick Mahomes’ No-Look Passes and Fueling With French Toast | Men’s Journal
Travis Kelce’s workout routine
Over the years, the Chiefs’ tight end’s approach to training has evolved significantly. He’s shifted from a focus on heavy weightlifting to a more holistic approach that prioritizes maintaining health and preventing injuries. This change in philosophy is especially crucial given the physical demands of professional football.
Kelce places a strong emphasis on pre-hab and rehab exercises, integrating them into his regular workout routine. This proactive approach is about more than just staying fit; it’s about ensuring longevity in a sport known for its intensity. As he put it in an interview with Tonal, “I’m not just doing it when I’m injured…I’m doing it so that I can prevent anything from happening to my body.”
In an interview with Men’s Journal, the Kansas City Chiefs player recounted a typical day in his training life:
During the season, I do Tuesday/Thursday workouts in the mornings. I’m an early bird, so I’m usually up at 6 a.m. the latest every day. I get my workouts in before our meetings start around 8:15 to 9 a.m. I’ll start with lower body—squats are amazing. I think front squats really tie in everything with core, your lower extremities, and hips. The biggest thing I like to focus on in all my workouts is using my core to trigger everything. I have had two surgeries, so you want to make sure everything is connecting the right way.Chiefs TE Travis Kelce on Catching Patrick Mahomes’ No-Look Passes and Fueling With French Toast | Men’s Journal
On his off days, Kelce switches from the intensity of training to a more laid-back routine. Relaxation and mental health are key components of his recovery process. He enjoys the simplicity of chilling on the couch and indulging in a bit of online shopping, a pastime that allows him to unwind.
Additionally, the NFL superstar values the benefits of spending time in the sauna, which helps him relax both physically and mentally. In an interview with PEOPLE, he described his off-day preferences, stating, “But typically, a nice recovery day would be to jump in the sauna and just put my feet up.”
