Experience Review: Earth Warriorz

I love going to the gym and training with my trainer, so I was excited to try out the fad of ice baths. Of course, it’s not new if you’re familiar with Wim Hof or Tony Robbins, and it seems cold water immersion dates back to 3500 BC, but it’s new for me.

I’ve been training with the same trainer twice a week for nearly a decade, and he always manages to introduce different exercises every session. He’s constantly innovating in his field and has recently partnered with a team specialising in recovery and wellness. So, I decided to try out his new 90-minute “Mobility and Sauna” session. It involves 60 minutes of mobility work – stretching and releasing.

Usually, I find this kind of thing boring and prefer to move on to more dynamic exercises like kettlebell swings, but I focused on relaxing into these painful ball rolling and stretching exercises, along with using a hard foam roller. It’s intense and quite agonising, making me realise I need to do it more often.

The next step is the sauna, and once I’m fully heated, it’s off to the cold plunge or ice bath. My mind gives up before my body every time, and even though I can only withstand a minute or two in the cold plunge (which is 6 degrees), it feels amazing. We do a few rounds of sauna and cold plunge/ice bath, finishing with a sauna and hot shower.

I haven’t attempted the zero-degree ice bath yet, but I’m working up to it. I look forward to the day I can sit next to my hardcore husband, who does 10 minutes with ease (and no complaints, haha).

All in all, it’s made me feel unreal. I sleep better and don’t feel as stiff when I wake up in the morning. I’ll definitely be back and am determined to increase my endurance each time.
