Balancing the Grind With Natalie Giezekamp & Belinda Joh of Get Social

Natalie Giezekamp is the Founder of Get Social, a digital marketing agency that specialises in building brand awareness, targeted ads for lead generation and conversion and social media management. Belinda is the Creative Director where she oversees and manages the creative process from concept to completion.

This conversation is brought to you by HelloFresh, delivering delicious ingredients and simple recipes straight to your doorstep each week.

1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your background and career?

Belinda comes from a hospitality background having worked as an international flight attendant and also marketing consultant at a boutique hotel.

Natalie had spent 10 years in the asset finance, mortgages and property sectors with a focus on business development.

Together we have now joined forces and talents to create Get Social which combines online and offline marketing and brand reputation.

2) What is your current role and what does it entail on a day to day basis?

As the Creative Director at Get Social, Belinda’s day involves attending meetings with Natalie to ensure that the design brief is executed correctly to our design team, overseeing design processes and coming up with new and innovative ideas for our clients and our own brand.

As the Founder of Get Social, Natalie’s day consists of meeting with existing clients to share the results of our marketing strategy and to share new avenues of lead generation and brand awareness, setting up and attending meetings for potential clients and staff meetings to put out any fires and ensure all areas of the business are firing correctly.

And together, we are a mean marketing and networking machine – you will often find us popping up all over Sydney joined at the hip smiling the way through our day.

3) What does a typical day in the life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

5.00am Meditate, coffee!

6.00am Gym

7.00am Emails

8.30am Arrive at the office – staff meeting

8.31am Coffee!

9.00am First client meeting

11.00am Brand strategy Session

1.00pm Lunch

2.00pm Second client meeting

3.00pm Business development, coffee!

4.00pm Final client meeting/staff catch ups if necessary

4.30pm Emails

4.45pm Daily wrap up and plan tomorrow

5.30pm Home time if we can (if all fires are out)

4) Do you have any tips, tricks or shortcuts to help you manage your workload and schedule?

Apart from coffee, we use a lot of online resources such as Monday.com to plan our workday and delegate tasks. We use automation tools such as Social Report to help us schedule our social media planning.

The biggest tip we have is to plan, plan and plan everything. We like to plan our days the afternoon before and then check in throughout the day to ensure that we are on task.

Routine can be seen as boring, but consistency (injected with our positive personalities!) will get you, your business and your work life balance where it needs to be.

5) In between your job, life and all your other responsibilities, how do you ensure you find some sort of balance in your life?

Although we are serious entrepreneurs we do our best to limit the meetings scheduled after hours as we believe that personal relationships are just as important as business relationships.

Most certainly this won’t always be the case but if you show your loved ones your commitment and presence when it counts, they will surely understand when you need to be away for work.

6) What does work life balance mean to you?

Natalie – Knowing where to draw the line and switch off between one or the other and not let the people you’re working with/spending time with feel like a burden.

Belinda – Making your work life feel like fun. Doing the best you can to fulfill your soul ambitions in your work and personal life.

7) What do you think are some of the best habits you’ve developed over the years to help you strive for success and balance?

Natalie – Daily routines, meditation, vision board, reminding myself of the reason I started to begin with when I want to give up, living in a state of gratitude, giving back wherever I can and filling my brain with us much positivity as I can through books, events etc…

Belinda – Meditating at night or first thing in the morning, consistently redefining my goals for myself, attending seminars on self growth, surrounding myself with like-minded people and planning a trip to reward myself after I’ve achieved a big goal so I always have something to look forward to and keep me motivated.

8) Are there any books that have helped you improve over the years?

9) What is the number one thing you do to make sure you get the most out of your day?

Natalie – Priority and time management

Belinda – Making lots of lists and crossing off completed tasks

10) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

Create a business that still lets you laugh and encourages creative flow that makes you feel like you are changing the world even if its just a small cute dent.

Stay true to your own set of morals and believe that anything is possible. Trust your instinct and the vibes you get around everyone and everything.
