1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role?

My real estate career spans almost 2 decades working for companies in Auckland, London, Sydney and Melbourne. I was initially working in office operations and marketing roles for franchises like Ray White but then in 2013, I noticed some amazing tech companies emerging in the real estate space and I was ready for a change.

That’s when I made the move into proptech, starting out in project management before making the transition into business development. Fast forward 8 years, in 2021 I was appointed National Sales Manager for Melbourne based AI proptech startup, Rental Heroes.

I love my role and feeling like I’m a part of building something from the ground up. My main responsibility is developing and implementing effective growth strategies and leading a team to help achieve these targets.

2) What does a day in your life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

Gym and meditation are 2 non-negotiables that I build into my morning routine to ensure I am set up and focused for the day ahead. A typical workday varies due to the nature of my role and no week is the same which keeps things interesting.

The day to day is generally made up of attending conferences and events, onsite visits with current or potential customers and Zoom demos for meetings that are not practical to travel to. I always kick the week off spending Mondays at our Melbourne CBD office catching up with the team for planning + internal weekly meetings.

3) Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine?

Absolutely! Rental Heroes HQ in Melbourne opened early 2022 and the team mixes up their week between the office / WFH, we also have a team based in The Philippines. My colleagues are all focused, highly motivated individuals who get the job done, regardless of where they’re working from.

The enhanced productivity that comes from offering flexibility around remote working definitely has a positive impact on the business. We’ve reached some incredible milestones in the past 12 months and a lot of that was done working from home during lockdowns which says a lot!

4) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?

In a startup environment, it’s a necessity to be agile and wear multiple hats in my day to day role. I tend to work in overdrive but ensure I always have goals that I’m working towards and plans in the diary for example, trips away to recharge the batteries and allow me to maintain my focus during the daily grind.

My fiance and I just got back from Italy and we already have the next getaway booked. I find even just a mini break gives me the reset I need as well as something to look forward to.

5) In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life?

I started my new role during lockdown but luckily the business already had very solid remote systems and processes in place which meant I could get stuck in and ramp up our sales pipeline remotely.

That said, being at home in front of a screen for long hours did have its challenges, the digital fatigue was real! As we were coming out of the world’s longest lockdown, I committed to the BFT 8 Week Fitness Challenge which was the reset I needed, for both my physical and mental health. It really was life changing!

6) Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend?

I love being a part of the Girls in Tech and Business Chicks communities. I have a long list of podcasts that I regularly tune in to while I’m out walking my dogs, but my favourite one is The Elevate Podcast hosted by Samantha McLean which is real estate industry focused.

7) Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without?

Hubspot, Canva, Apple watch, Insight Timer & Blinkist apps and my Kindle.

8) If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

I am a huge fan of Emma Isaacs, Founder and Global CEO of Business Chicks. So incredibly down to earth and I love the backstory about her journey to success. She has an amazing energy and somehow manages to juggle her super busy career with 6 kids, not sure how she does it!

9) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

Everyone has a different idea of what work-life balance means to them as we all have different commitments and interests. I think it’s important to find a job that compliments your situation and is something you love getting out of bed for, lifes too short!
