1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role?

My name is Sammy Leo and I am the founder and CEO of Breeze Balm. The lip balm that works. It is a 70 year old secret family formula created by my grandfather specifically for dry cracked lips.

He was a renowned pharmacist in New Zealand. The formula was passed down to my dad and now me, where I created the brand, Breeze Balm. It is such an incredible lip balm, I had to share it with the world.

2) What does a day in the life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

My general day to day looks like this:

5am – wake up & have a hot lemon water.

6am – workout – either walk, pilates or gym.

8am – feed my puppy and have breakfast.

8.30am – arrive at the office and say hello to all staff members.

8.35 – coffee!

8.40am – clear emails & check/respond to my social media pages.

9.30am – interact with my Lip Gossip Breeze Balm Facebook forum. (This is where our customers can chat with me directly. We also chat about the hottest beauty hacks, products etc.)

10.30am – Quick staff meeting to see how we are tracking for our monthly goals, to see where we are at on current projects and answer any questions to get everyone on track for the day.

12pm – Lunch while I check my socials again and post a few images or stories.

12.30pm – 5pm is usually made up with meetings with my other team members who do not work in-house, product development, manufacturing meetings (we make our balms in-house at our HQ), goal setting, accounting meetings, analysing reports and ticking off my to do list.

5.30pm – home time.

6.30pm – Dinner

7.30pm – Check emails and do any last minute things I might have missed or finish up my meeting with my team members overseas.

10pm – Bed and night time routine.

3) Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine?

Yes, thankfully my job allows me to do this.

Travelling and exploring is something I love to do, But work is also super important especially in the early stages – when you are trying to build an empire. It never stops. I feel really blessed I can blend the two and work from anywhere.

4) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?

To me, a balanced work life means making sure you do what makes you happy. If you’re not happy, you need to adjust something.

I love working, but I also love massages and travel and spending time with my dog,  friends and family. I make sure I keep my time free for things that are important to me and my happiness. But then I also sometimes work 18 hour days until 1am in the morning because that also makes me feel accomplished, ahead and passionate.

Building an empire or trying to achieve any goal isn’t a breezy walk in the park. It takes time, dedication, stamina, sacrifice. Nothing worth having comes easy.

When it comes down to balancing and choosing between working late and other things that make me happy, I choose what is going to make me happy in that moment.  I generally know pretty quickly if I have made the wrong decision.

5) In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life?

I am currently trying so hard to work on my self love and mediation. I am so envious of those who mediate. I struggle to sit still without my mind racing, so i’m working out how the best way to meditate for me is and it’s definitely something I have gone in and out of working on.

6) Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend?

I just finished the book Shoe Dog by the founder of Nike. It was such an inspirational book I cried at the end. I don’t know if I was just emotional that day or excited with joy.

I felt like I could relate so much to the author Phil Knight and the struggles he went through to create such an iconic brand. It was just so inspiring to learn the journey.

7) Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without?

It’s terrible that I say this, but Instagram and Facebook Messenger. I also can’t live without Breeze Balm.

8) If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

Kris Jenner. She is such an inspiration to me as a business woman. I would love to ask her so many questions and know how she balances all things business and life.

9) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

Be proud of your best moments and be proud of your hardest. Anything you do, you are growing and learning. I believe everything happens for a reason so just go with it.
