1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background and current role?

My entrepreneurial career stems back to 2004 when I said goodbye to my ad agency job to start my own marketing communications company, Simply Put Marketing.

In 2009, I launched Details Event Management working with corporate and nonprofit clients to both plan and market their events, and in 2010, I created The Mom-e Club, a national mastermind group for moms and women in business.

Yes, running three businesses simultaneously AND having two young children!

In 2015, I struggled through the e-funk trying to figure out who I am and what my life’s purpose was, and I pivoted to launch my personal brand only keeping the things from my previous three businesses I loved to do.

In my current role as the Chief Experience Officer & President of Tisha Marie Enterprises, LLC, my purpose lies in empowering other entrepreneurs to get out of their own headspace and make their vision happen through my inspirational professional speaking, writing, business mentoring/consulting and my live signature event Social Connect PHX.

I especially have a huge heart for the startup community and mentor entrepreneurial students every semester from my alma mater Arizona State University.

I’m also the host of The Success over Struggle podcast and the #casualconvofriday livestream, and most recently, I am leading the PHX group for the Happy Neighborhood Project virtual networking events.

2) What does a day in the life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?

Time is extremely important to me which wasn’t always the case in terms of scheduling my priorities. I’ve learned to set boundaries which works for me and my family.

Each morning, I start by waking up, taking a pause before the day starts for a gratitude check to thank God for my health and being alive. I then head downstairs, start the coffee and get the kiddos situated for school.

I try to ease into my morning with a workout and/or meditation to get the day going, tidy up the house, then dive into work at 9am assisting clients and/or working on my business to-do list, posting to and engaging with LinkedIn contacts, and end my day around 3pm.

I like to call this the mom hat schedule as I have a hard stop especially when I need to pick up kiddos at school and take them to activities. Now that it’s summer break, the hours may shift, but the routine stays the same.

3) Does your current role allow for flexible or remote working? If so, how does that fit into your life and routine?

Yes, very flexible. I’m able to meet clients when it’s convenient for both of us either virtually or in-person and shift my schedule around to accomodate errands and appointments throughout the day.

I always play an active role in my kiddos’ life and school to never miss any big field trips or moments. Being an entrepreneur definitely has its freedom and flexibility perks! I typically work from home, but I also have a co-working space I head to a few times a week.

4) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?

Work-life balance means never having to sacrifice your priorities for the sake of your JOB. Of course, it’s important to not neglect your to-do list and your clients, but enjoying life is not being stuck working all hours of the day at your desk either missing out on the moments.

I’ve been there. It was a horrible and unhealthy way to live and it almost cost me my marriage. Instead, I don’t overwhelm myself. I intentionally put only three or four important tasks on my list for the day so my day is more manageable and flexible.

When I’m done, I celebrate the win and throw my mom/wife hat on to be with my family. We eat every meal together and I’ve carved out quality time with my husband at night to catch up on our show of the month. We’re typically throwing in the towel by 9:30pm.

5) In the past 12 months, have you started/stopped any routines or habits to change your life?

Yes. During the school year it’s much more manageable with my schedule, but I found myself a workout buddy – a mom at my daughter’s school to hold me accountable. She and I drop the kiddos and head to the gym right after to get a workout in.

It keeps me energized and ready to start my day. I put this workout on my calendar just as I would a business appointment. I also try to keep my phone in the other room or away from my workspace when working on a project so I’m not easily distracted surfing social media.

I like to keep focused on just the one task at hand. Much more efficient that way.

Another thing that’s very important to me is my faith. On Wednesdays, I’m in a Bible Study at my church and I never miss it. It’s food for my soul and I get to surround myself with some awesome women who lift me up. Great to have that mid-week break!

6) Do you have any favourite books, podcasts or newsletters that you’d like to recommend?

Yes! My favorite books include The Go Giver, all of Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass books, The Tipping Point, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, and The E-Myth Revisited (especially helpful when determining IF you want to be an entrepreneur).

7) Are there any products, gadgets or apps that you can’t live without?

I recently enrolled with KEAP (formerly Infusionsoft) which has been a total godsend to me in keeping everything nice and organized!

It’s a CRM tool, but also handles my calendar appointments, email marketing, invoicing and more all in one spot. Much, much better than trying to piece meal it all together with several apps that don’t talk to each other to save a few bucks! It’s like having a handy assistant.

I create weekly videos too so I use ClipScribe for captioning and branding and VideoPad quite a bit. Can’t live without those three!

8) If you could read an interview about work-life balance by anyone, who would that be?

I’ve always admired the actress Jennifer Garner. She always appears so confident and polished yet humble, even with the highly publicized divorce from Ben Affleck, and being in the constant spotlight. She’s raising her three children and heavily involved in their lives, an entrepreneur, an actress and does quite a bit in the community. She’s a natural beauty inside and out!

9) Do you have any last thoughts on work, life or balance that you’d like to share with our readers?

The best image I saw recently said, “Time wasted is not wasted time.” Schedule your priorities. Take care of you. Be in the NOW for your family and friends, and live and lead a life that makes you insanely happy without one ounce of regret!
