Liquor Loot’s Whisky Adventure: 24 Bottles, Endless Discoveries

So we get sent a lot of different products here at Balance the Grind, but this was the first time we have ever been sent 24 bottles of whisky! The team at Liquor Loot sent us 24 mini bottles of whisky that takes you on what they describe as a “remarkable tasting journey.”

Now I don’t mind a whisky sour or the occasional whisky at the end of a night, so I’m no expert, but I have to agree with them, it really was a remarkable tasting journey. I was a little hesitant as I don’t drink a lot of spirits straight outside of tequila, but I have to say I loved it. Hao and I sat down and worked our way through five each (which is quite a few).

We plan to continue the rest another day but what struck me the most was how much difference there is in each bottle but also how much I enjoyed it. We drank all straight just with ice, and my appreciation for whisky has gone up a lot. On an even more positive note, I now know the difference between Japanese, Scottish, Single Malt, etc. as the tasting notes were easy to understand, descriptive and honestly super helpful.

Firstly let’s talk about the packaging. I loved it, the little cardboard draws, each with a perfectly sized 30ML glass bottle of whisky. The bottles are super cool and have just enough information on them, name, location, age, % strength, small comment, etc so you can make a good judgement.

But if you want to go deeper, there are the tasting notes, a small booklet that really gives you the details, here you will find a picture of the bottle, long form tasting notes in clear easy to understand language. I have read a lot of tasting notes on wines over the years and found them to not really help. In this case, it was quite the opposite, the descriptions were not only informative but accurate.

Overall I would say I actually really loved the experience, it was fun and very interactive without being a hassle in any way. Coupled with the fact I now know exactly what whiskies I like and I learned more than I ever cared to know, I would say I might even start to drink more whisky when I am out or at home. If you have any interest in whiskey this is a MUST in my view, and if you don’t I would recommend you do it and see what you think afterwards, it certainly changed my opinion on the drink. Nice work Liquor Loot!
