What does self-care mean to you?
Self-care to me means carving out time for myself where I can focus on my wellbeing and health. Luckily It’s something I genuinely enjoy doing and dedicating as little as five minutes for it each day can make a difference.
How do you know when you’re feeling stressed or burnt out?
Usually for me it’ll show up as a lack of focus, tiredness and occasionally tension will build up in my shoulders, that’s when I know it’s time to decompress.
Do you have a regular self-care routine? If so, what does it look like?
There’s no set routine as such, but I’ve learned that our habits become our habitat, so it could be an array of things throughout the day. When I wake up I like doing my morning meditation. It can last between 5-10 minutes and I will do a longer one if I feel really energised. The brain is in a theta state once we wake up, which is an ideal time to impress upon the subconscious mind.
During the day, a walk or gym workout helps, I’m trying to do 10,000 steps most days. I have a little hack where I try to practice gratitude on my walks or in the gym. For example I will say ‘thank you for the ability to walk, thank you for the chance to use my muscles, thank you for clean water when I’m thirsty’, it makes me appreciate things I would normally take for granted.
In the evening, I love doing a face mask followed by my rose quartz gua sha with vitamin e oil routine. Recently I taught myself (via YouTube) how to do a lymphatic massage for my face, which is really soothing.
Where do you go for inspiration, ideas or tools for self-care?
I look to my close friends for inspiration, we share tips and advice on new things to try. Also Tik Tok has given me some great ideas. If I find a content creator I enjoy watching, I will like a bunch of their videos so the algorithm knows my preference and shares similar videos to my feed.
