What does self-care mean to you?

Self-care to me means self-awareness:

1) Awareness of when to push yourself hard, when to take a break, and what type of breaks you need.

2) Awareness of what nourishes you.

For me that’s connecting with people who share the same values, and spending time with the people I care about. I’ve been fortunate that through PraisePal, I’ve met so many brilliant leaders who inspire me, and chatting with them gives me energy to keep going.

3) Awareness of what drains you, and being able to ‘say no’ to protect your own energy.

Such as transactional relationships and inauthentic connections.

How do you know when you’re feeling stressed or burnt out?

When I don’t feel motivated or excited to start the day, even though everything seems to be going great.

Do you have a regular self-care routine? If so, what does it look like?

Dragging myself to workout classes every evening, so I get an enforced 45 mins a day of not looking at phones/screens.

What bumps you off your self-care routine and how do you get back on course?

When things get hectic at work and I start skipping workouts, eating unhealthily, etc – it all goes downhill from there!

Getting back on course starts by acknowledging the fact that I’ve gone off course, and allowing myself to do it for a few days. The most important thing is to understand that it’s just a phase, and get back up again.

Where do you go for inspiration, ideas or tools for self-care?

To be honest, it isn’t something that’s on my mind. More of an afterthought when I start feeling the heat. It’s definitely something I can do better on!
