How do you know when you’re feeling stressed or burnt out?
When I find it hard to be present with my friends and family. When my patience runs out faster than usual. When I find it hard to manage my thoughts and emotions.
Do you have a regular self-care routine? If so, what does it look like?
Exercise and regular catch ups with girlfriends make the biggest difference to me. Having some weekend plans with people you love and protecting your downtime. My husband and I try hard to schedule a trip every three months. Sometimes it’s a weekend away at an Airbnb, or it could be a couple weeks working remotely in Bali. It helps to reset and gain perspective. I don’t think there is a set answer for this, everyone is wired differently.
What bumps you off your self-care routine and how do you get back on course?
Having really busy periods at work or going through intense (painful) personal growth periods really impacts my self-care. Practising self-compassion is incredibly challenging but very important during times like these. Shifting my mindset to see balance and self-care as a dynamic thing that dials up and down, instead of a static set checklist has helped immensely.
Where do you go for inspiration, ideas or tools for self-care?
Travel! Seeing how others live and their different lifestyles and values is so inspiring. There are many ways to do things, self-care included. Travel is also an opportunity to reflect and reset. I have found that I know myself better after a trip, and in turn, I can better understand how to live in a way that helps me to be a better person.
