Workflow with Chelsey Wayte Kaffka, Founder & CEO

In this edition of Workflow, we have Chelsey Wayte Kaffka, founder & CEO of Brooklyn-based experiential marketing and events agency VIJON. Chelsey talks to us about her workflow as the head of a boutique agency juggling multiple roles on any given day.

Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people’s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, submit it here!

Describe what you do: I’m the founder and CEO at VIJON, a full-service experiential marketing and events agency based in Brooklyn, New York. We work with fashion, beauty and wellness brands to create unforgettable experiences that bring people joy and generate ROI for our clients.

As the founder of a boutique agency, I wear many hats in any given day – operations, HR, finance, sales and marketing, creative, and production. We launched Vijon Weddings at the start of this year, and I’m currently developing a wellness product that I plan to launch in 2021.

How do you like your coffee: I’ll take a Flat White with Oat Milk, thanks.

Device(s) you use: A 13‑inch MacBook Air, iPhone 11 Plus in Yellow (that’s our brand color, and I like a large phone display) and Airpods (game changer!).

Describe your working style in one sentence: I have a total ENTJ personality type (for ENTJ strengths and weaknesses click here), meaning I’m extremely goal-oriented and stop at (almost) nothing to get things done, providing there is a strategy I am excited about in place!

What does your workspace look like: Well due to Covid-19, currently it looks like a dining room that has been converted into a home office! But regardless of where I am, I like to be comfortable and surrounded by nice objects that make me feel good.

I like to keep my desk tidy, with minimal papers and ‘stuff’. It’s really just the laptop, wireless mouse, a notebook and pen, plus a big glass of water. Maybe a scented candle some days. Behind me I have all my files and a printer tucked away in a rattan cupboard.

My favorite clock, the Vitra Sunflower Clock by George Nelson, hangs on the wall in front of me. I sit near a window surrounded by a number of indoor plants. I find bringing nature into my indoor worskpace really helps my mood and productivity.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: Classical Piano Music when I need to get ‘in the zone’ – it helps me concentrate. When I’m working alongside the team I let someone else have office DJ honors.

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: A former colleague from IMG Sydney and good friend, Dolli Taylor. She recently launched her own PR & Talent Management Consultancy out of Majorca, Spain!
