Workflow with Gabriel Wong, Director of Positive Good

In this edition of Workflow, we have Gabriel Wong, Director of integrated cleantech marketing agency Positive Good, talking about downing two double espressos in a row each morning.

Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people’s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, submit it here!

Describe what you do: I’m a director at Positive Good, an integrated cleantech marketing agency that works exclusively with renewables and cleantech companies. Some of our clients include sonnen, GreenSync, SwitchDin, S-5!, HIP V HYPE, NEXTracker and the Australian Energy Storage Alliance.

How do you like your coffee: In the mornings, two double espresso in a row.

Device(s) you use: My trusty MacBook Air 13″, a Telstra Netgear Nighthawk for a truly reliable 5G connection, iPhone XS, iPad Pro that is attached to a Brydge wireless keyboard for working on the fly and my Jabra Elite 75t for conference calls and music.

Describe your working style in one sentence: 6am start to scan news headlines so I can flag key issues of the day to clients. I like to schedule client calls around 10am-2pm and in between its strategy, writing and emails. If I need really focused work time, I block time in my diary for a specific activity and treat it like an important appointment. Work ends at 5pm with my first glass of wine.

What does your workspace look like: Pre COVID-19, it would be in a cafe on some mornings. For now, I’ve been working from home on a height adjustable coffee/dining table with views of the park in my living room that is flooded with lots of natural light.

I have a trusty notebook to take notes and post-its to scribble to do’s and reminders to myself. I have a resistance band on my desk to remind me to stretch during the day and a Theragun liv to get a deep massage for muscle soreness.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: I’m currently listening to the REC CLUB MIXTAPE 2 on Spotify. I train at the Paramount Recreation Club and they make a mean playlist.

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: My bestie, Dr. Joel Fredericks who is an academic at the University of Sydney.
