In this edition of Workflow, we have Diony McPherson, Co-founder & COO at Paperform, talking about sharing a desk with her co-founder (and husband), and Spotify team playlists.
Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people‘s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, get in touch with us!
Describe what you do: I run operations at Paperform, an online form builder. I founded the SaaS company alongside my husband Dean who is our CTO.
How do you like your coffee: White and in high doses.
Device(s) you use: MacBook Pro 16 inch, 27 inch 5K monitor, Pixel 3 XL, and a kick-ass calculator (because sometimes I just want to use a calculator without the distraction that bells and whistles can bring).
Describe your working style in one sentence: It’s about getting stuff done – my days are task-focused: mornings are about connecting with the Team, putting out fires, and admin, and evenings are for larger projects (once the kids are in bed there are less interruptions, in theory).

What does your workspace look like: I share a large desk with Dean. We each have a 27 inch monitor on it. My side has a smallish pile of unresolved paperwork stacked on it, and a bunch of pens and highlighters. Our filing cabinet, printer, and shredder are nearby. There’s a lot of natural light – there needs to be a lot of natural light.
How does your workspace affect your creative process: It allows me a clean and focused environment to let loose without the stress of external pressures. I’m a highly visual person, so my space has to be a primed, blank canvas if I’m working on any big projects. Admin and other stuff doesn’t need that environment though, just the larger bodies of work.
Do you have a favourite playlist for work: Each person in our team creates a playlist of their favourite tunes on Spotify, so I’m making sure I give each playlist a good week or two to absorb. It’s a great way for a remote team to get to know each other. Otherwise my go-to is This is Ludovico Einaudi.
Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: My husband, Dean McPherson, the CTO at Paperform.
