Workflow with Donna-Claire Chesman, Managing Editor of DJBooth

In this edition of Workflow, we have DJBooth managing editor Donna-Claire Chesman giving us a look into how she works to oversee the editorial content for one of the top hip-hop online destinations.

Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people‘s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, get in touch with us!

Describe what you do: I’m the managing editor of the lovely online hip-hop magazine, DJBooth.

How do you like your coffee: Always black. I’m exceptionally partial to an espresso, too.

Device(s) you use: My trusty 17” Lenovo laptop, a run of the mill mouse, three different notebooks, and I’ll count the book I keep on my two-tier standing desk because reading is writing, and sometimes I need a break from work to write.

Describe your working style in one sentence: Routine, routine, routine, keeps my head on straight and my anxiety at bay.

What does your workspace look like: I have a two-tier standing desk, upon which sits a laptop and a mess of notebooks and stationary. Some of these notebooks are personal journals, some are notebooks for pitches, and the stationary is for taking notes on the piece I’m currently working on.

Handwriting is very key to my process. To my left, there is always a book. On the second tier of my desk, I keep more journals and little objects of import to remind me who all I do this for.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: Silence and/or Mac Miller’s discography.

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: My brother in arms, Mr. Yohsipher.
