In this edition of Workflow, we have Hayden Bleasel, Director of creative agency Jellypepper, talking about double espressos, multitude of devices and listening to Dirty Sprite.
Describe what you do: I’m the director of Jellypepper — an award-winning creative agency that designs and builds beautiful brands, apps, websites and videos. We work with tech companies and disruptive startups in industries like self-driving cars, artificial intelligence, sustainable energy financing and 3D bioprinting.
I’m also the founder of Neutral — an app for people like myself that want to become (and stay) carbon neutral. It helps you track your carbon footprint, learn how to reduce emissions, stay up to date with the latest global news in carbon reduction and offset your emissions with a simple monthly subscription, all from your phone.
How do you like your coffee: Depends on the time of day! In the morning, I love a good double espresso. In the afternoon, perhaps a long black. Or if I’m craving white coffee, a flat white with almond milk.
Device(s) you use:
- 5K 2017 iMac with a secondary monitor
- 15″ Macbook Pro for working out-of-office
- iPhone XS
- iPad Pro for client meetings and reading
Describe your working style in one sentence: Flexible — I reserve my mornings for work and life admin (gym, emails, Slack messages, etc) which frees me up for the rest of the day to focus on whatever is most important. I wrote a bit about it on an article in Balance the Grind, you should check it out.
What does your workspace look like: Nice and clean. My primary workstation is simply an iMac with an external monitor which gives me all the space I need to work, though I usually find myself contemplating adding another monitor. There’s also a printer, a few notebooks (unused as I’m a big Notion fan) and a stack of Jellypepper tees nearby. Hit me up if you want one ?.
How does your workspace affect your creative process: My workspace is pivotal to how efficient my creative process is. When I travel, I bring my Macbook Pro with me which allows me to have the same process wherever I am, but I’ve noticed I’m a bit slower without the augmentations of a mouse, standalone keyboard and two 27-inch monitors.
On top of that, I’ve specifically designed my home office to have lots of natural light and airflow. This is super important when you’re working from home as it assists in regulating the body’s natural circadian rhythms (sleep-wake schedules).
Do you have a favourite playlist for work: I have a few playlists I listen to, depending on the day’s mood. My favourite one right now is Dirty Sprite — three hours of hip-hop, R&B and rap with artists such as Drake, Chance the Rapper, Future, The Weeknd and Travis Scott.
Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: Anna Ji, Head of Product at Clipchamp.
