In this edition of Workflow, we have Jane Hutton, Communications & Marketing Director at thrive pr + communications, talking about how she manages to WFH with three young children.

Working from home and need some inspiration? Grab a copy of our Workflow book. Beautifully designed with gorgeous home office photos and stories from around the world.

Describe what you do: I’m responsible for Thrive’s visibility in the market, showcasing the people, work and culture of the agency. Basically, I do PR for the PR agency.

How do you like your coffee: I’m a tea girl, very rarely drink coffee these days. English Breakfast with honey and lots of full cream milk.

Device(s) you use: MacBook Air, iPad, iPhone 8.

Describe your working style in one sentence: Eclectic. With three young children, I work a lot at home (even pre-COVID) and I tend to take whatever pockets of time I can get to work uninterrupted, which is often early in the morning. I plan my work schedule pretty carefully so I know what to prioritise and don’t waste precious time on stuff that’s not really important.

What does your workspace look like: At home, it’s our dining table, usually surrounded by various art and craft activities that the kids are working on. Now that school and kinder are back in Victoria, it’s a little more clear of clutter thank goodness! The Thrive office is a beautiful space with lots of open areas and greenery. I’m looking forward to getting back in there soon.

How does your workspace affect your creative process: My ideal workspace is free from too many distractions so I can get into deep work and be really productive. The reality is that this is rarely available, but I find that creativity actually rarely strikes at my desk. It’s usually when I’m exercising or doing something completely unrelated to work that a great idea will strike me.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: I love the Thrive Good Vibes and Chill mixes for background, you can find them on Spotify. Our team has such a mixed taste in music but it just works together so well. I listen to a really wide variety depending on my mood – lately that’s included Macklemore, Celine Dion, Guy Sebastian and The Kooks to name a few!

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: Sophie Hopkins.
