Workflow with Kalinda Atkinson, Freelance Digital Marketer

In this edition of Workflow, we have freelance digital marketer Kalinda Atkinson talking about how plants spark her creativity and changing workspaces every few months.

Working from home and need some inspiration? Grab your copy of our Workflow book. Beautifully designed with gorgeous home office photos and stories from people around the world.

Describe what you do: All things digital – some clients want a full 12-month end-to-end strategy and others just want a tag quickly installed on GTM. It changes daily! I currently have a 50/50 split of direct client work and white labelling work for agencies in Sydney and Melbourne.

How do you like your coffee: I swing between having taste and having none – either a homemade espresso using the Industry Beans Newstead blend or the 90s classic: Nescafe Blend 43.

Device(s) you use: MacBook Air, HP Monitor, and a Google Pixel. Simple.

Describe your working style in one sentence: Value-addy – I like to provide value to my clients, be it through the work I deliver, the knowledge I share, or the recommendations I provide.

What does your workspace look like: Green! Plants keep me calm and elevate the space. I also keep some props around to spark creativity – Rolling Stones telephone, fun coasters, and a couple of kitsch South Korean pens.

How does your workspace affect your creative process: A tonne! If it doesn’t change every few months, I become too comfortable – and I believe that if you want to deliver truly good work you shouldn’t be comfortable. So I try to switch up my workspace regularly. During COVID, it’s been simple things like working on the balcony or in the kitchen. In the pre-COVID days, it’s meant library or cafe-hopping around Melbourne.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: YES! Anything with piano. Preferably chill/melancholic. My go-to: Piano.

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: My dear friend Natalie Ruhl – Director of Customer Service at SoundCloud.
