Workflow with Lisa Frederickson, Creative Director, Writer & Content Producer

In this edition of Workflow, we have Creative Director, Writer & Content Producer Lisa Frederickson, talking about taking a sabbatical to write a novel.

Working from home and need some inspiration? Grab your copy of our Workflow book. Beautifully designed with gorgeous home office photos and stories from people around the world.

Describe what you do: I usually work in broadcast TV as a Creative Director, heading up a team of content producers and directors, which I love.

However, I’m currently taking a sabbatical to write a novel. Gulp! It’s very challenging, anxiety-inducing but fun, and hopefully worth it when I finish. I’ve given myself a decent deadline – my 87th birthday, so, should hit it.

How do you like your coffee: Flat white, preferably with friends. We always have the best ideas when grabbing a coffee.

Device(s) you use: MacBook Air/Pro and my trusty ‘Remarkable’ tablet – great for taking notes in meetings. I like it because it feels like you’re writing on paper and you can convert handwritten notes to Word files later. Job done!

Describe your working style in one sentence: Get focused: prioritise, do the urgent work first, free my mind for big picture thinking, have a nice cup of tea!

What does your workspace look like: Like most of the world, I’m currently operating at home so I’ve fashioned a makeshift desk-space. Minimal cutter, nice old wooden desk. I like my space to be clear so my mind can be free too- I find it helps me think better. I love books around and good amount of light. From there, I drink tea and pray for inspiration!

How does your workspace affect your creative process: In a word -hugely! I need my workspace to be pretty clear, light and bright. Bright colours/furniture are good to bring the sunshine in and the ideas out. If my space is full of papers and clutter, I find it hampers my thought process. I’m not keen on dark spaces either – only fungus likes the dark (no offence to the mushroom community!)

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: Depends on the task I’m working on. If I need to be coming up with ideas, writing pitches or solid copy – I often like quiet. Otherwise, I love me some good ole Chill Out – Ibiza style!

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: Yasmin Sanders, Founder and Director Zipp Media Solutions.
