In this edition of Workflow, we have Sharon Melamed, Founder of Matchboard, talking about her workspace on wheels, and listening to music created by her family.
Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people’s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, submit it here!
Describe what you do: I run a business matchmaking platform called Matchboard – it’s like a business version of a dating site. I’m overseeing matching of buyers and suppliers for everything from digital marketing and website design to call centre services and offshore staffing.
How do you like your coffee: As long as it’s got lactose-free milk, I’m not fussy!
Device(s) you use: ASUS laptop, Jabra headset and iPhone.
Describe your working style in one sentence: Intense, productive, fast.

What does your workspace look like: Organised and minimalist – I don’t print much. After a debilitating RSI episode a few years ago, I’m conscious of having an ergonomic set-up at my desk (I work from home). My desk has caster wheels so my workspace is mobile, and I’ve moved to a few different places for variety. But confess to landing on the living room couch with my laptop sometimes, just to be around family!
How does your workspace affect your creative process: My workspace is very basic, no clutter, and I guess that helps me think clearly, without distraction. The fact that my workspace is on wheels may help with the creative process – if the ideas are not flowing, I have a theory that by moving to a different setting, I can get inspired in a different way!
Do you have a favourite playlist for work: I have a few playlists ranging from classical (Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Brahms) to pop, as well as songs written and performed by family members (we’re a musical family)!
Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: David Sorauer.
