Workflow with Uka Battulga, Investment Banking Analyst at Morgan Stanley

In this edition of Workflow, we have Uka Battulga (nominated by Jessica Li), an Investment Banking Analyst at Morgan Stanley talking about her unabashed love for instant coffee.

Workflow is an interview series by Balance the Grind to get a glimpse into people’s working styles and workspaces. If you’re interested in sharing your workflow, submit it here!

Describe what you do: I am an analyst in Morgan Stanley’s Financial Sponsors and Industrials investment banking groups in San Francisco, CA. My function is to perform the analytical work needed to facilitate corporate transactions. On a day-to-day basis, I find myself submerged in PowerPoint presentations and Excel.

How do you like your coffee: I unabashedly prefer instant coffee.

Device(s) you use:

  • Lenovo Thinkpad
  • Acer dual monitors
  • Havit low-profile mechanical keyboard (to accommodate my short fingers)
  • GameSir gaming mouse
  • iPhones (personal and corporate)

Describe your working style in one sentence: While I aim to stay focused on whatever task is at hand, I also make sure to give myself enough breathing room throughout the day to self-reflect, read, write, and listen to good music.

What does your workspace look like: I’m fortunate enough to have wide windows that overlook Salesforce Park and the City’s skyline. This offers lots of natural light that illuminates the watercolor paintings that hang above my desk. I also like to have technology that helps me be more efficient with work.

How does your workspace affect your creative process: I’ve always enjoyed writing so I like to keep my writing journal and sticky notes within reach. My journal is for stream-of-consciousness thoughts that I like to transpose onto paper and my sticky notes are for writing down random flashes of ideas that reveal themselves throughout the day.

Do you have a favourite playlist for work: My sister, Sandy, and I love sharing music. I frequently find myself listening to whatever playlist she whipped together on Spotify.

Who would you like to nominate for the next workflow interview: Dulma Altan.
